Qualifications:
- Possess the ability to collect animal data from personnel, enter dispositions into a computer, and generate monthly and weekly reports according to specified protocols.
- When vaccination is appropriate, all animals not presently vaccinated against rabies are immunized and all animals released from quarantine observation are certified as rabies-free. Provides information to animal bite victims, such as the procedures they should take to guarantee their personal safety.
- Maintains medical/surgical records for clients/patients and ensures that all required logs are kept up-to-date in compliance with approved protocols.
- To acquire AAALAC certification, a laboratory animal care and use program must be established and maintained.
- Creates and implements medical treatment protocols. Ability to decipher local animal-control ordinances, legislation, rules, and regulations, as well as city policies. Capacity to respond to questions from the general public and government officials; Assist in the timely and successful settlement of issues.
- Ability to obtain and control euthanasia drugs and equipment, as well as ensure that supplies and equipment are used correctly in accordance with all applicable state and federal rules and laws. Ability to stay updated on market trends and innovations in the animal sheltering business.
- Animal husbandry, humane animal handling, hygiene and disease management, basic animal behavior, medical care, surgical assistance (both intake and discharge), and animal first aid are all taught to employees. Aids in the euthanasia of animals by providing injection instruction, evaluation, and execution. Examines all seized animals and, if they are sick or damaged, orders their euthanasia.
- Performs high-quality sterilization surgery in a fast-paced shelter environment to limit the population of adopted animals. Routine veterinarian care includes things like triage, physical exams, emergency medical care, stabilization, diagnosis, and treatment of sick or injured animals, minor surgery, vaccines, and testing.
- Successfully performs physical examinations, diagnostic tests, and surgical and dental procedures. Clients are given information about their pets’ diagnoses, treatment plans, preventive health care, and dietary needs.
- Collects detailed information from clients and listens to and comprehends their concerns and desires.
Skills:
- Possess (or receive) a Federal DEA license and registration for restricted substances.
- Interpersonal, organizational, and communication abilities are all essential.
- Understanding of the ZIMS medical record system.
- Must be able to work well in a team environment and complete assignments with little supervision.
- A doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM), a veterinary medical doctor (VMD), or an equivalent degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary institution is required.
