Job Description
Maintaining the tree inventory, evaluating suspected unhealthy trees, and keeping track of associated data are some of the responsibilities of a forester. Maintaining public trees and right of ways is the primary responsibility of the Forester. Provides technical and professional assistance to trees on public and private land that pose a danger. Provides guidance to seasonal and part-time employees assigned to help the Forester in carrying out divisional responsibilities.

Qualifications:
- The silviculture plan must be implemented in line with the regional silviculture plan and the yearly plan. Silviculture contract negotiation, operation supervision (including timely status updates for system activity updates), and monitoring of contract performance (including safety and SFI and EMP), production costs, and product quality) are among the other duties of the silviculture coordinator.
- Maintain the health and safety of the City’s tree stock, and educate other Streets Division staff on proper tree care techniques.
- In charge of general forestry needs, such as early-rotation and mid-rotation tasks, contract administration, and/or other duties as assigned.
- Review and update forestry-related websites, as well as develop new outreach materials to promote different forestry activities.
- Reviewing factors and making decisions on grant or denial of applications; notifying applicants in writing of reasons for denial in the event of a denial; assigning and taking part in inspections of site clearing activities in order to ensure that submitted landscaping, tree removal, and clearing plans are in compliance with municipal codes.
- Help build forest stewardship plans to guide future restoration and management of county-owned forestland. Field data collection and analysis are used to assess the health of the forest. Apply the Forest Landscape Assessment Tool (FLAT) to all previously acquired and newly acquired forestland parcels in order to evaluate their current status.
- Tree and landscaping inspections are aided and participated in by municipal employees. You must make certain that all relevant procedures for protecting existing plants and installing new ones have been followed, as well as ensuring that adequate measures have been put in place for their upkeep and care.

- Excel and Word fluency, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills, are required for this position.
- Establish and manage effective tree and landscape inspection programs, execute inspections and detect pathological plant problems while working outdoors, educate staff in plant disease diagnosis and other activities as assigned. Check to see if any trees that have been harmed by disease may be saved. Determine whether or not a landscape design should be approved or rejected by looking at it closely. The enforcement of codes, laws, and regulations must be done with firmness, tact, and impartiality.
