Job Description
Liaison between the State Medical Examiner’s Office and the county medical examiner offices; liaison between families of deceased and the public; and other relevant duties as assigned by the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

Qualifications:
- You may keep your knowledge and skills up-to-date by attending seminars, workshops, and training programs.
- Law enforcement, attorneys, judges, families of the deceased and the general public are given medical information by law enforcement authorities.
- A person’s medical history, medication use, and mental condition at the time of death, as well as weapons and other evidence, are gathered at the scene of a crime or death by investigators. They also capture photographs and videos of the area and interview friends, relatives, and anybody else who may have seen the incident.
- Recordings of all the information gathered during an investigation are retained. Also requested are police reports and medical records by the investigator if necessary.
- Inquires concerning the qualifications of expert witnesses for any forensic criminal and civil proceedings that may be relevant to the cases being examined and for any other forensic demands that may emerge in the County,
- The dead person’s medical, psychological, and/or mental history is found by talking to the dead person’s doctor, getting the dead person’s health care and dental records, looking into reports from outside agencies, and helping forensic pathologists find the dead person.
- For the purpose of providing evidence, case records are collected to document the cause and manner of death and record the facts. Late-night emergencies are handled by this unit on a rotational basis. If necessary, the incumbent may be called to testify in other US District and Federal Courts. Chief or Deputy Medical Examiner’s projects. Keep an eye on the spread of illnesses.
- Keep all death investigation reports in a computerized web-based records management system in a specified format and on time to ensure that they are clear; accurate; impartial.
- Customers are served both in-person and over the phone; information or assistance is provided regarding departmental activities, forms, procedures, fees or other issues; routine questions and complaints are addressed; problems are looked into and solutions are initiated; and complaints or problems are referred to the appropriate personnel.
- He attends a wide variety of pathology conferences, including the Neurophysiology Conference, the Case Consensus Meeting, and the Toxicology Roundups. This individual is the Deputy Chief Medical Examiner/Medical Director’s primary source of information on forensic neurophysiology, as well as an expert who can explain the complexities of neurophysiology to medical students and residents. She teaches and presents on the topic of forensic pathology at conferences and symposium in the field.
Skills:
- Employees must have or be able to receive an active state medical license, as required by the Department of Professional Regulations, by the time they are hired.
