Full-Time Reporter, Health & Science – Rustenburg
Job Description
The Reporter’s primary, but not exclusive, duty will be to monitor political developments at the state level. This entails governing as well as electoral politics. On average, the Reporter will be tasked with filing two or three articles per week on breaking news events or other timely topics, as well as conducting in-depth interviews and gathering evidence to produce exclusive stories (e.g., at least every couple of weeks).

Qualifications:
- Distribute your content and gather information with the use of social media and other source networks.
- Collaborate closely with editors and content creators to outline a vision and strategy for arts coverage.
- Locate and produce engaging arts coverage for broadcast on air, online, and on television and radio, as well as for podcasts.
- Learning how to use online state and federal reporting systems, keeping an eye on and researching public disclosure forms, and submitting requests for public documents are all part of the job description.
- Convene and host conversations with the local arts communities and engage regularly with key stakeholders.
- Investigate the overlap between the creative industries and traditionally marginalized groups.
- Meet the daily filing schedule, which may include some late and weekend labor.
- The reporter will also be responsible for covering and uncovering issues related to the impact of money in politics, such as the impact of donations, PACs, lobbying, conflicts of interest, and more.
- Job duties will include coming up with story ideas and completing tasks. The managing editor will be your boss.
- Depending on the situation, you can also be required to capture still pictures, record video, or produce on-camera video segments regarding your reporting.
Skills:
- A bachelor’s degree and three years of experience working as a professional journalist, with significant expertise covering the arts, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
- Capacity to competently represent the station and operate effectively both independently and collaboratively.
- basic knowledge of or expertise with audio production tools and procedures.
- the ability to communicate complex ideas to a wide audience and fluency in the English language
- Knowing your way around Microsoft Office programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is a plus. Competence with social networking platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and others is preferred.
