Job Description
The Proofreader’s job is to check everything of the department’s output, from edits and new content to conversions and citation tables, to make sure it’s perfect. This person is responsible for proofreading and revising assigned materials for clarity and correctness with regards to grammar, syntax, spelling, style, and formatting.

Qualifications:
- Reading the original copy or drafts will help you spot and note any mistakes in grammar, spelling, or structure.
- Communicate with coworkers, lawyers, and management to get a handle on tasks and communicate any necessary changes to paperwork.
- Superior communication, writing, organizational, interpersonal, and time-management skills; can juggle multiple responsibilities with ease.
- proofreading for at least five years, particularly in a legal environment.
- Use electronic work logs, instant messaging, track changes for comments, and ChangePro for electronic review to speed up your proofreading and copyediting tasks.
- Research questions regarding spelling, grammar or word use and make corrections to original hard copy documents or electronic copy. If necessary, assist department manager with creating style tips or writing guidelines for distribution to department.
- You should proofread materials to make sure they are error-free grammatically and visually. Use a proofreading code to indicate where changes need to be made in the manuscript.
- Keep track of anything that’s been edited or proofread.
- Return flagged papers for rectification and afterwards compare revised documents to the original.
- Microsoft Office and Windows (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) expertise is a must, with web abilities an added bonus.
