Job Description
The Proofreader’s primary duty is to proofread and/or copyedit documents that have been prepared by attorneys, clients, and support employees, including those that have been typed, scanned, or written by hand. For the role of Proofreader, it is necessary to have excellent command of the English language (including spelling, grammar, and punctuation) and a working knowledge of legal jargon. As professionals, proofreaders should be able to handle both individual and group projects with ease.

Qualifications:
- Keep a record of everything you’ve revised for spelling and grammar.
- Interact with staff, lawyers and management to understand work assignments and communicate any changes that need to be made to the documents.
- Proofreading experience of at least five years; experience working in a legal setting is preferred.
- Edit the original paper or digital document after finding and fixing errors in spelling, grammar, or word usage. Help the department head come up with style rules and write them out so everyone can follow them.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required, and familiarity with the internet is a plus.
- Read the original copy or drafts to identify and mark any grammatical, typographical, or compositional problems.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, and verbal abilities with a keen eye for detail and the capacity to manage numerous projects at once.
- Papers need to be proofread to make sure they are error-free and presentable. Make corrections using the accepted proofreading symbol.
- Use technology to efficiently execute proofreading and copyediting tasks, such as ChangePro for electronic review, IM, track changes for comments, and electronic work logs.
- Return marked papers for correction, then compare the repaired version with the original.
