Job Description

A Geologist is needed to join our team. Soil logging and sampling, construction of soil borings and monitoring wells, and aquifer testing are all part of the field activity. Duties may also involve conducting hazardous waste site investigations and doing different kinds of sampling, such as low-flow groundwater sampling, surface water sampling, sediment, soil, subsurface vapor, and air samples; remediation experience is preferred. A good grasp of GIS tools and applications, as well as experience with Phase I and Phase II ESAs, is preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Technically accurate requests for further information, if necessary, and permits/documents that are clearly understood and accordance with prescribed rules and processes are to be produced within the timeframes established in Department rules, recommendations and procedures.
  • Daily reports will need to be made and updated so that this information can be sent to management. It is important for a business to keep track of its inventory and move samples.
  • Task and project management, client contact, proposal writing, cost estimation, remedial system design, monitoring implementation/construction, technical report writing, and coaching.
  • Work with solid waste facility engineers and compliance personnel to assist in the development of water quality monitoring strategies and the assessment of environmental sampling requirements for assigned solid waste facilities projects.
  • Drillers must position drilling equipment, communicate management objectives to drill crews, and maintain communication with drillers to keep management up to speed on mechanical issues, hole quality, and surveys in order to do their work successfully and efficiently.
  • Informing project management of problems, such as cost or time overruns or scope changes or liability risk, is essential.
  • You must know how to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and database software. You must also know how to use ArcGIS and CAD. A working knowledge of repair systems and general building and mechanical know-how are both pluses.
  • Providing assistance in the examination of geological and risk assessment papers for Solid Waste & Waste Cleanup submittals with District or appropriate Division authorities. For projects supplied to you by your supervisors or managers, assess extra site restoration plans and paperwork in a professional manner.
  • One of the most common things to do is to record soil boreholes and keep track of drilling and well installation. There will be tests on samples of soil and groundwater.
  • They may be asked to do remedial investigations, remedial system designs, feasibility studies, remedial action plans, groundwater monitoring plans and reports, cost projections, and the preparation of technical publications.

  • You must have one year of federal government specialized experience or education equivalent to the GS-07 to be considered for this post. To meet this requirement, you must have collected, analyzed, and reported on soil and rock sample data in the field, as well as providing standard data to higher-level specialists; conducted studies or investigations; and/or assisted in the administration of mineral locateable and saleable activities.
  • An environment in a mining or manufacturing plant might expose workers to dangerous conditions, including extremes in temperature or humidity, electrical shocks, and toxic substances.
  • Field and site inspections connected to the installation of groundwater monitoring wells at solid waste facilities, as well as inspections in accordance with the solid waste level of service for closed landfills, are required.
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in geology is required, as well as 20 semester hours in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological science, structural engineering, mining, petroleum engineering, or computer science from an accredited college or university. Additionally, a bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field is required, such as biology, chemistry, or structural engineering.
