Job Description

By correctly utilizing evaluation, planning, education, and implementation of a treatment plan, the Physical Therapist provides and coordinates comprehensive physical therapy care to patients in accordance with Physical Therapy Standards of Practice. Indirect patient care duties include documentation, scheduling, family training, attendance at rounds, engagement with the Interdisciplinary Team, participation in staff meetings, ordering supplies, and contributing to continuing quality control and performance improvement. In addition, incumbents must effectively respond to legal, patient rights, safety, maintenance, and emergency situations, as well as participate in continuing education, staff development, self-directed learning, and supervise and provide performance feedback to staff, aides, students, and volunteers as needed.

Qualifications:

  • As appropriate, provide guidance and consultation to the client’s family and/or other caregivers in order to encourage the client’s progress toward mutually agreed-upon goals and a discharge plan.
  • When it comes to mobility and health, restore, maintain, and encourage not just optimal physical function but also ideal wellness, fitness, and quality of life.
  • Perform initial and continuous physical therapy evaluations in accordance with the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) standards of practice and state regulations.
  • Understands different payer payments and distributes therapy resources efficiently based on resident goals and outcomes as they relate to discharge destination.
  • Create a Plan of Care, keep patients accountable for following it, and adjust the schedule and plan as appropriate based on the patient’s progress.
  • Patients should be given information and training to assist them reduce their drug use and avoid surgery.
  • Tests and evaluates the patient’s strength, motor development, sensory perception, functional capabilities, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency, and keeps track of the results to build or amend treatment programs.
  • Instructs, motivates, and assists the patient in completing a variety of physical tasks, such as non-manual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, daily-living activities, and the use of assistive and supportive devices such as crutches, canes, and prostheses.
  • The therapist interacts with a physician and other practitioners to obtain further patient information, make treatment program revisions, and integrate physical therapy with other areas of the patient’s health care.
  • By preventing the onset, symptoms, and progression of impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities caused by diseases, disorders, ailments, or injuries.

Skills:

  • Empathy, compassion, and the ability to encourage patients to push their limits in a responsible, safe, and constructive way are all desirable attributes.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in a skilled nursing facility, a hospital, or an inpatient/outpatient setting is required.
  • The applicant should have a strong sense of leadership and a persistent drive to learn and improve his abilities.
  • A physical therapy degree from an American Physical Therapy Association-approved program is required.
  • Knowledge and experience in the fields of rehabilitation, Orthopedics, and medical/surgical settings that demonstrate achievement of the required job knowledge, skills, and abilities are excellent.
