Qualifications:
- Processing and editing W-2 forms according to federal and state regulations; assisting in the creation of salary and benefit cost projections for budget development and collective bargaining; maintaining accurate balances of payroll expenditures for reconciliation with the District’s budget; maintaining a detailed control sheet for each payroll period;
- Activities related to processing and administering employee pay, including maintaining complex and confidential accounting/bookkeeping records.
- Resolve issues and discrepancies, and provide technical information on transactions, documents, rules and procedures that are related to the inquiry.
- Payroll preparation and generation for all District workers, including tax, social security, unemployment insurance, and retirement withholding. Employee records for taxes, benefits, membership fees and other deductible expenses should be updated throughout the district. Work out the tax burdens and make modifications as necessary.
- Bi-weekly payroll operations are coordinated by someone in this job. Ensure that each activity is completed before moving on to the next step of processing, and correct any errors.
- Investigate and respond to state and federal government requests. Correct ADHOC reports. Run month-end, quarterly, and year-end closing payroll reports; review transactions, resolve irregularities, and offer pertinent remarks and/or comments as required.
- Figure out if any changes need to be made to move employees into and out of different pay plans when transfers, promotions, demotions, full-time or part-time changes, and other status changes are entered into the system.
- Follow up with staff to verify accurate, policy-compliant data. Determine whether changes are needed and make them to ensure report/system compliance.
- Employee termination eforms, extra pay eforms and overpayment/underpayment analysis and resolution are just a few of the monthly payroll-related tasks you’ll be expected to handle alongside Human Resources employees, as well as the monthly contract pay process.
- To maintain optimum system performance, communicate with business users to gather and explain business needs, transform requirements into system functionality, and provide suggestions for the system.
Skills:
- In the course of processing payroll, time is recorded and final tax payments are made. Experience with SAP’s auto-payment system is required for this role.
- The knowledge of time-reporting systems and processes is highly desired. Having worked under a union contract is a distinct advantage; nonetheless, it is not a must. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, as well as the ability to communicate both vocally and in writing are essential.
- There are two levels in this program: Level 2 needs three years of relevant experience and Level 3 requires five years of related experience, including the processing of garnishments.
- At least two to four years of analytical Workday experience; mastery of certain modules is preferred: In HCM, we discuss payroll, benefits, wages, bonuses, and other payments.
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting or business is required, or an equivalent mix of education and experience that meets most of the requirements below. On the other hand, most of the requirements could be met by a combination of education and experience that is about the same.
