Job Description

The Curator assists researchers electronically and in the reading room, as well as developing manuscript collections, University record groups, and born-digital assets. As a lead worker, this individual helps develop and execute the Archives and Special Collections department’s and the library’s rules, procedures, and policies. The individual participates to department outreach initiatives and represents the library in public.

Qualifications:

  • Maintain good proactive connections with other municipal agencies, outside suppliers, programming partners, and educational institutions.
  • taking an active role in the long-term creation and management of collections and information related to such collections or exhibits
  • Participates in all aspects of the day-to-day collection management tasks. Resources such as antiquities, artworks, and archives are all cared for by the museum.
  • Make that the museum’s programming, staff, and public interactions continue to satisfy the needs of different audiences in terms of their cognition and physical abilities as well as their social/emotional needs.
  • Maintains a current awareness of modern historical literature and interpretative best practices, is aware of cutting-edge research and new historical arguments, and finds ways to incorporate current historical knowledge into programming.
  • By helping with recruiting, assigning volunteers to the right jobs, and making sure they get enough training, you can help the museum system’s volunteer program.
  • Acts as the institution’s representative when negotiating agreements with repositories and donation deeds. Gift and purchase evaluation, loan agreement management, and compliance with rules and procedures are the responsibilities of this position.
  • Exhibition and publishing efforts; research; exhibition and loan coordination; ensuring projects are completed on schedule and under budget; managing large-scale, cross-border initiatives.
  • The initial point of contact for the general public is provided by way of phone, email, and in-person visitation. Demonstrates knowledge of processes and performs basic reference interviews as part of the job. Promptness, precision, and thoroughness are all met by this employee. Interactions between parties are documented in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  • Peer-reviewed journals should publish original research on all elements of computer history, from design to technical development to cultural impact and historical significance.

Skills:

  • The equivalent of a four-year term of study in museum work or a related subject matter area.
  • Possesses a solid working understanding of museum best practices, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders through written and verbal means.
  • Assist the team in developing a sense of community by maintaining a healthy work-life balance, being open to others’ viewpoints, and accepting constructive criticism. As an executive, you’ll also need to have a strong sense of self-assurance and drive to succeed.
