Qualifications:

- Prepares and organizes business legal papers, such as company filings and registrations, prepares communication, document assembling, and aids with outside lawsuit management.
- Law clerks are responsible for researching and writing legal opinions for judges, using their discretion and independent judgment to conduct legal research and apply the results of that research in preparing a recommended opinion for the judge that provides a cogent explanation to litigants of the court’s ruling and reasoning.
- Discuss cases with judges to ensure that everyone is on the same page. Additional tasks include drafting judgements in civil and criminal matters as well as imposing penalties.
- Perform additional work activities that need the same skills, knowledge, and physical abilities as the ones listed above, if not more.
- To be utilized in court proceedings, gathers, sorts, and indexes a wide range of information.
- collect all necessary evidence, identify critical issues, and then write briefs and other submissions that will be utilized in the case prior to the trial. In addition to summaries of the evidence and descriptions of the other judges, each judge on the panel has their own summary of the case.
- Do legal research to find out if the legal arguments and authority given by litigants and their attorneys are true or not. Use discretion and judgment to figure out which issues are important and which aren’t.
- Travel as required by the principle, which may include assisting with client engagements, presentations, and other such activities.
- Investigates reports and referrals made by federal, tribal & state investigators for probable cause; evaluates the need for more information and evidence and creates comprehensive tactics to gather necessary information and evidence.
Skills:
- The capacity to interact with members of the public, other departments, offices, and coworkers in a respectful, efficient, and responsible manner is essential.
- Acquaintance with laws and regulations governing civil and criminal cases as they pertain to the Court of Common Pleas’ jurisdiction
- It is necessary to be able to write memoranda and other forms of legal documentation in order to express judicial views on the subject matter at hand.
- A Juris Doctor or Bachelor of Laws degree from a well-known law school is needed to get into the job.
- Having the ability to work together with others, to recognize and respect lines of authority, and to maintain cordial relationships with members of the public.
