Job Description
Professional and specialized building inspections, investigations, and enforcement of building standards, rules, and codes are provided by the Building Inspector. Qualifications:
- Examines mobile/manufactured structure installations for manufacturer’s and state standards compliance.
- Facilitates resolution of sensitive customer service concerns in the context of building rules.
- Inspection of contract requirements and quality control of building, sign, and construction work done by outside contractors and municipal employees; visits project sites and the offices of contractors to examine work and supplies on hand.
- It is his duty to check and analyze different building and construction sites across the city, and to ensure that all building projects and activities are compliant with all relevant laws, rules, and standards of practice.
- Expert in the appropriate regulatory codes; monitors and inspects barriers and other safety-related signs and equipment; offers information to clients; serves as a subject matter expert.
- It is the job of the building inspector to check that new construction and changes as well as repairs are in compliance with local zoning restrictions and the applicable building codes as well as the requirements of the contractor.

Skills:
- Certified Erosion and Sedimentation Control Lead certificate at the time of hire, or the ability to get one in the next six months, if hired.
- DBPR One and Two Family Dwelling Inspector license within 90 days of hiring, which must be transferred to a normal license during the necessary term of the department.
- a minimum of four years of experience in a construction-related profession, such as carpentry, that involves the interpretation of specifications/plans and the verification of conformity with local development and/or building codes
- Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, as well as five years of relevant work experience in the disciplines of construction, plumbing, electrical, or other related industries.
- Knowledge of all sorts of building construction materials and procedures, as well as the phases of construction when probable violations and flaws may be quickly noticed and addressed.
