Job Description
Respond to requests for hazardous materials response and rescue operations within their authority; they also regulate the crowds and traffic at disaster scenes; they give First Responder medical treatment when required; and they conduct other related jobs as needed. A valid driver’s license is essential for all firefighters. The students in this class are expected to follow a set of procedures, but they are also expected to make their own judgments about when and how to perform the assigned activities.

Qualifications:

- To be ready when they arrive at a new place, firefighter must fill out lots of paper work This includes plans for occupancy, inspection reports, alarm incident reports, and a look at the size of the building.
- use a variety of fire-fighting and rescue equipment, such as hand tools, power tools, and smoke ejectors. You will also use other equipment, such as axes or pike poles, to get into buildings.
- Maintaining emergency equipment, conducting fire and life safety inspections on both residential and commercial sites, and responding to emergency calls in a safe and fast way are just some of the jobs that firefighters must undertake.
- In addition to mopping floors, washing windows and sweeping and dusting inside and outside of the firehouse on a shift-by-shift basis, you must also shovel snow, clean the kitchen and bathrooms, and maintain the firehouse’s storehouse.
- When a wildfire breaks out, a fireman jumps into action, undertaking rescue and entry operations as well as ventilation and salvage efforts to aid the effort. They also search for and rescue persons who are trapped in buildings and carry out these duties.
- Prepare a response strategy in case of an explosion or hazardous chemical release. Creating dikes or storing hazardous chemicals in a way that prevents discharge may assist protect surface drainage systems.
- Being able to carry out all of the aforementioned responsibilities without endangering oneself or others is a requirement of the work.
- Prioritize daily maintenance of the vehicle you’ve been assigned as your primary task. Maintaining proper fluid levels is only one of a mechanic’s numerous duties. You may choose to not refuel and clean the vehicle but we strongly urge that you do so.
- Aside from assisting with customer service and putting up smoke detectors, firemen often visit community events and schools to teach people of all ages about the importance of fire and life safety.
Skills:
- keep all essential licenses up-to-date, and must have the license with them at all times.
- It is required that the employee be able to complete 240 hours of training per year in addition to their usual shift obligations, as well as respond to emergency calls when not on duty and be trained in CPR and first aid.
- Applicants must be able to pass an NFPA 1582 physical exam before being hired. To lift, carry, push, pull, or move anything, one must be physically capable of exerting up to one hundred pounds of force sometimes and/or regularly.
- Ability to work cooperatively with coworkers, to recognize and accept lines of authority, and to maintain cordial relationships with members of the public
- At all levels of a company, you must be able to communicate effectively vocally and in writing.
