Job Description
When it comes to assessing issues, the Economist employs a wide range of economic and public policy abilities. Cross-examination of corporation and intervention witnesses is required for this position. Examining, assessing, and providing oral and writing recommendations for the Commission on utility petitions for modifications to base rate revenue requirements, base revenue distributions, rate design, additional surcharges, and finance arrangements. The Economist is also involved in all aspects of assigned cases, such as preparing information requests, interrogating expert witnesses during hearings, producing memoranda and policy suggestions, and authoring parts of orders.

Qualifications:
- To analyze and forecast market activity, previous trends must be evaluated.
- Assist in the development of the department’s toolset and products to fulfil business requirements, including the introduction of new and innovative solutions.
- Research projects are planned, organized, and reported on in response to concerns highlighted by research sponsors, management, or senior employees.
- Surveys may be used to obtain economic data, compare prior data to current conditions, and discover essential economic features for well-defined initiatives.
- On behalf of public and commercial sector customers, contribute to analytical research initiatives on a variety of economic policy topics (e.g. market research, surveys, project and impact evaluations, etc.)
- Gather and analyze existing data, as well as perform research to uncover new data sources for analytic purposes.
- Communicate economic concepts and quantitative data to non-technical audiences orally and in writing, and work with other economists and top-level executives.
- Under the supervision of a senior economist, conduct economic research, evaluate and interpret economic data, produce benefit estimates, and report findings.
- Determines and recommends schedules and methods for supplying economic and financial data to fulfil specified reporting standards, processes, and procedures; assists in the formulation of budget and economic goals and objectives that correspond with strategic planning initiatives.
- Analyze data with the use of mathematical models and statistical methods.
Skills:
- Strong written and spoken communication skills, as well as the ability to tailor communications to a variety of groups including business, media/press, academic, technical, and political audiences.
- To be considered for the position, a candidate must be self-motivated, eager to learn, and capable of taking on leadership responsibilities.
- Teaching assignments in a college or university that included both classroom instruction in economics subjects and one of the following: (1) personal research that produced evidence of results, (2) direction of graduate theses in economics, or (3) consulting or advising on technical economics problems.
- Recent economics academic literature on entrepreneurship, small company, employment, and labor market dynamics is required.
- Three semester hours of statistics, accounting, or calculus were necessary in addition to at least 21 semester hours of economics.
