Job Description
The Building Inspector is responsible for conducting thorough and professional building inspections and investigations, as well as enforcing applicable building standards, regulations, and codes. Inspections are performed to verify that safety and structural integrity regulations, laws, and ordinances are being followed in a certain area or area of expertise.

Qualifications:
- Instructs other contractors and city officials on construction projects, providing guidance and mechanical incitement.
- Conducts follow-up inspections to verify changes are done; patrols and visits construction sites on a regular basis to check building progress and code compliance.
- Staying aware on new building materials, new repair scams, and changes in pertinent laws and ordinances is essential; attending construction meetings and other training sessions to ensure that work is completed in accordance with plans and codes is essential.
- To ensure compliance with construction laws, regulations, zoning restrictions and contract requirements for both residential and light commercial buildings. Mechanic, electrical, and plumbing issues are also checked by the technicians. They also look for structural faults and deficiencies.
- Ensures that mobile/manufactured structure installations are in conformity with manufacturer’s specifications and, if applicable, state rules.
- Facilitates resolution of sensitive customer service concerns in the context of building rules.
- Identifies violations and necessary corrective measures; develops and communicates strategies for achieving compliance; and enables other methods of complying with federal, state, and local rules, laws, and regulations.
- Expert in applicable regulatory codes; monitors and inspects barriers and other safety-related signs and equipment; provides information to customers; functions as a subject matter expert.
- Contract criteria and quality standards must be met by outside contractors and municipal workers working on buildings, signage, and construction projects; inspects the work being done and supplies on hand at construction sites and contractors’ offices.
- A complete assessment of all building activities is provided to assure compliance, safety, and competence at a large number of construction sites around the City.
Skills:
- The required education and experience may be satisfied by a combination of education from a recognized institution and relevant work experience totaling nine (9) years, which can be substituted year for year.
- Temporary One and Two Family Dwelling Inspector license through DBPR within 90 days of hire and the ability to convert to a normal license within the term required by DBPR in order for employment by Department of Housing and Urban Development.
- The capacity to comprehend plans and specifications, as well as the ability to guarantee that they are being followed, is a must for this position.
- A thorough understanding of building construction materials and procedures, including how to spot potential flaws and infractions, is necessary.
- Certified Erosion and Sedimentation Control Lead certificate at the time of hire, or the ability to get one in the next six months.
