Qualifications:
- Examines the dead’s medical, psychological, and mental history with the physician who cared for him or her; acquires and evaluates the deceased’s medical and dental records; investigates reports from outside agencies; and supports the Forensic Pathologists in determining who the deceased was.
- Inquiries, complaints, and other issues are handled by the department’s information or assistance officer; investigations and problem resolution are initiated; the issue is sent to the relevant personnel.

- In all criminal and civil matters related to investigations and any other forensic demands within County, we provide expert witness skills.

- Investigative summaries, detailed case reports, and records of all investigative information are kept. The investigator also subpoenas police reports and medical records as needed.
- Investigators collect evidence at the site of the crime or death, such as medical history, medication use, and mental condition at the time of death, as well as weapons and other things, in order to identify how and why someone died. Photos and videos of the site are taken, as well as interviews with anybody who may have seen the incident.
- Case documents, including reports, diagrams and charts, are prepared by the incumbent for the goal of establishing the cause and manner of death. On a rotating basis, the incumbent attends to death scenes and makes jurisdictional judgments in the evening and night shifts. As required, the incumbent testifies in federal and state courts, as well as circuit courts in surrounding jurisdictions. Assists the Chief or Deputy Chief Medical Examiner with specific initiatives. Infection control and monitoring are implemented.
- Some of the pathological conferences he attends are Neurophysiology Conference, Case Consensus Meeting, and Toxicology Rounds. A specialty in forensic neurophysiology instructs future doctors on how to do tasks such as examining brains and spinal cords. Other instructional initiatives devised by the Deputy Chief Medical Examiner/Medical Director are also assisted by this individual. An expert in the field of forensic pathology, this individual gives lectures and presentations on a variety of topics.
Skills:
- An understanding of the medical examination and identification process is essential, along with an understanding of how trauma affects a person’s health, as well as a working knowledge of natural sickness origins and effects.
- Understanding the strategies, methods, and procedures utilized in the processing and production of evidence to ensure chain of custody control
- Medical licenses are a requirement imposed by the Department of Professional Regulations for all applicants.
- shows a high level of self-confidence by executing things with little supervision.
- An associate’s degree in biology or medical science, para-medicine, or a closely related field of study, as well as at least 1,000 hours of verified job experience, are necessary. Experience in the field is a plus.
