Job Description

The Building Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all employees are treated equally and fairly in terms of selection, promotion, training, job assignments, transfers, and other personnel actions.

Qualifications:

  • responsible for conducting inspections of different building and construction sites across the city, as well as conducting reviews of all building projects to ensure that they comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and standards of practice.
  • Training sessions are held in order to ensure that work is completed in compliance with the plans and regulations. Furthermore, he keeps abreast of new developments in building materials, restoration techniques, and pertinent legislation.
  • Ensures that difficult and sensitive customer service problems may be resolved in the context of construction requirements.
  • Residential and light-commercial buildings are inspected by construction inspectors to ensure compliance with applicable building rules, laws, zoning restrictions, and contracts. The technicians also examine for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing concerns. Inspectors also look for structural issues and faults when inspecting new construction.
  • In addition, you works as a subject matter expert on associated regulatory regulations, and monitors and inspects barriers, as well as other safety-related signage and equipment.
  • Collaboration with other contractors and local officials on building projects is essential, as is providing direction and mechanical support when required. Participates in a range of training sessions to keep up to date on the latest trends in the construction sector as well as the appropriate inspection regulations.
  • Examines building, sign, and construction work done by outside contractors and city employees to make sure it meets contract specifications and that it meets quality standards; visits job sites and the contractors’ places of business to check work and materials on hand.
  • Ensured remedial action had been implemented; monitored construction sites on a regular manner to monitor building progress; and issued and written notice of violation, citation, and closures.
  • Mobile/manufactured structures must be installed in accordance with manufacturer specifications and any relevant state legislation.
  • Federal, state, and municipal requirements are investigated and corrective procedures are devised. Alternate ways of compliance are also approved by the proper authorities, where required.

Skills:

  • The required education and experience may be satisfied by a combination of education from a recognized institution and relevant work experience totaling nine (9) years, which can be substituted year for year.
  • General knowledge of all building construction materials and techniques, as well as the stages of development during which any violations and faults may be quickly discovered and addressed.
  • Extensive knowledge of municipal development and/or building regulations, including the ability to understand specifications/plans.
  • A temporary One and Two Family Dwelling Inspector license from the DBPR within 90 days of hiring, which must be changed to a regular license during the duration necessary by the DBPR to work for the department.
  • Having certified erosion and sedimentation control lead certification, or the ability to get one within six months of starting the position, is required to be considered for this position.
