Job Description
Crane Operators lift, move, and place loads such as machinery, equipment, goods, and solid or bulk materials by executing the following responsibilities with a moving or stationary crane (cab operated). The needed degree of skill and expertise is high. Required: NCCCO or CIC.

Qualifications:
- Obtain and examine rigging, connect rigging to load, verify travel path, sound the whistle to notify the crane operator, lead load to destination, install load, detach rigging, and return rigging to storage rack
- Inspects the crane for broken parts and informs the supervisor of any issues. Maintains the cranes and lifting mechanism’s cleanliness and functionality.
- All problems are swiftly notified, and the employee is capable of functioning in any conditions. Other tasks are assigned as directed by management.
- Follow all necessary corporate, customer, and health and safety rules, as well as any other applicable criteria, such as weight and size limits, with utmost understanding and adherence
- This profession necessitates the ability to read and comprehend instruction manuals, blueprints, drawings, and specifications, as well as utilize arithmetic to determine load weights, wire, sheaves, and fitting sizes.
- Rigger Operation Manual (must be on rigger at all times), chains, nylon slings, pallet lifters, magnets, vacuum lifters, posi-turner, spreader bar, softeners, tape measure, hammer, punches, pliers, crescent wrench, and paint stick marker will all be used.
- Use radio or visual signals and other communication to work with riggers and truck drivers to lift items and other cargo.
- When the responsibilities of the Crane Operator have been performed, and the workload for the principal job above has allowed, the work of a Rigger begins.
- Monitor activities using the control panel and make modifications to the process. Perform general preventative maintenance and follow all safety laws and regulations.
- Climbing a vertical ladder (to a height of 25 feet), inspecting the crane and cab, filling out inspection papers, operating the crane (4 hand levers, 1 foot brake), and filling steel orders are all duties that are necessary for this position.
Skills:
- To guarantee the continued, needed level of physical health and capacity or fitness to execute the requirements of the position, this position requires the completion of a pre-employment physical examination and an annual physical examination afterward.
- Certification from the NCCCO or the CIC. A valid DOT medical card is required. Safety Department, Equipment Manager, or Operations Manager certification or approval is required. As mandated by the local jurisdiction (DC requires operators to be licensed). A practical test must be passed.
- Prior experience operating a cab and bridge crane (or a crane of a comparable sort) from heights of 30 feet or greater and spans of 60 feet or greater is required.
- General equipment maintenance knowledge is essential.
- Ability to guarantee that safety and housekeeping requirements are observed, machine capacities are not exceeded, and tools, supplies, and equipment are correctly stowed and accounted for at the end of each work day.
